Merleau-Ponty, Maurice
► (1908-61) Filósofo y psicólogo francés de tendencia existencialista. Partiendo de un descubrimiento de las realidades concretas ocultas en las teorías, afirma la unidad del ser humano en su inserción en el mundo como conciencia-cuerpo. Obras principales: La estructura del comportamiento (1942) y Las ciencias del hombre y la fenomenología (1954).

Filósofo francés. En 1945 fundó, junto con Jean-Paul Sartre y Simone de Beauvoir, la revista Les Temps Modernes. A partir de 1949 enseñó en la Sorbona. Fue el principal exponente de la fenomenología en Francia. Aunque influido en gran medida por Edmund Husserl, rechazó la teoría husserliana acerca del conocimiento de los otros, y basó su doctrina más bien en el comportamiento y la percepción corporales. Defendió el comunismo soviético, pero se desilusionó de él después de la guerra de Corea.
